Ennovation Ventures Portfolio | A Must for 190 Million Patients Globally! Hope Medicine's New Drug for Endometriosis Hits the Pain Points, with Positive Progress in Phase 2

Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease characterized by the implantation of endometrial cells outside the uterine cavity, usually manifested as a chronic inflammatory response. The endometrium is a layer of mucosal tissue within the uterine cavity that undergoes hormone-dependent changes during the menstrual cycle. Endometriosis is common among women of childbearing age, and common symptoms include lower abdominal and pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and infertility. According to comprehensive literature reports, approximately 10% of women of childbearing age worldwide suffer from endometriosis, which means that about 190 million women globally are endometriosis patients; 20% to 50% of women with infertility have endometriosis concurrently, and 71% to 87% of women with chronic pelvic pain have endometriosis. Endometriosis is one of the main causes of dysmenorrhea, infertility, and chronic pelvic pain. Endometriosis usually leads to a decrease in the quality of life, affecting the patient's sexual life, psychology, and social behavior.

      • The average dysmenorrhea pain score in the 240 mg q2w group decreased by 42% compared to the baseline.

      • The average pelvic pain score during the non-menstrual period decreased by 50%.

      • Most patients reported normal menstruation.

      • No typical perimenopausal symptoms were reported.

      •
There were no significant changes in bone mineral density and sex hormone levels (including estradiol, LH, FSH, and progesterone).

Mr. Chen Xi, CEO of Hope Medicine, also shared other positive feedback from the clinical trials. He mentioned that researchers from China, Poland, and the United States all highly recognized HMI-115. Among the 102 subjects, only two dropped out due to personal reasons, which is much lower than the dropout rate of up to 25% for other similar drugs. This result further proves the effectiveness of HMI-115 and patient acceptance.

Mr. Chen Xi particularly emphasized that in the clinical trials of HMI-115, patients did not report any adverse reactions related to depression, indicating that patients can maintain a good psychological state after receiving the treatment. This is precisely one of the most important criteria for the success of treating diseases, especially chronic diseases.

In addition, HMI-115 supports subcutaneous administration once every two weeks. On the one hand, similar to insulin, this sophisticated administration method avoids the "burden of tablets" (patients having to take too many oral tablets daily); on the other hand, the once every two weeks frequency makes HMI-115 more similar to a long-acting drug, in line with the general trend of the development of chronic disease therapies.

Thus, the emergence of HMI-115 not only addresses the pain points of existing drugs but also wins the favor of doctors and patients with its remarkable efficacy and low side effects. It once again demonstrates the important role of original innovation in promoting the development of the pharmaceutical industry.
